In truth, it really is as epic as everyone says it is.
Some highlights/recommendations: Fly into LA and stay for a day or two to check out Decades Inc, Melrose Umbrella Co, and hang out at the W Hollywood. Then head down to the desert, with a pit stop at the Ace in Palm Springs for Stumptown coffee and some shots of this overly instagrammed hotel. While in Indio for the festival, check out the historic La Quinta Resort for a round of 5-dollar margaritas and other pre-chella Tequila specials or grab a bite on the main stretch of this quaint little desert oasis before heading over to the grounds. We are big fans of staying in the valley for the 3-day long festivities (the 40 min ride back to Palm Springs at 1am in the morning would be too much for us to handle after a full day of being out and about) and Airbnb has a bunch of great options very similar to what we stayed in for the weekend, all within 5-7 minutes of the festival grounds. Uber makes it easy to get around.
If you need a post-chella detox, beautiful northern California is just the ticket. More on that soon.
