As fashion weeks around the world continue at rapid-fire pace, our instagram feeds, facebook feeds, twitter feeds and inboxes are flooded by some of the most beautiful and exquisite creations that the best designers around the world can come up with. While I love this visual over-stimulation that happens twice a year, the unfortunate fact of the matter is this: Ms. Marchesa, your gorgeous gowns are way out of my price range. Which is why, most of the real in-depth browsing is into brands like Alice & Olivia, Tory Burch, DVF and the like.
And let me just say, Alice & Olivia have really upped their game since they first began in the fashion world. With pop colours, great prints, and flattering silhouettes, the brand has managed to hit that sweet spot between preppy and ladylike chic. I adore the pieces for SS13 that made their debut at NY fashion week! In particular the two dresses featured up top.
This, if you ask me, is the real future of fashion. Young, fun labels which offer great quality clothes (I have pieces from previous seasons that get such regular wear it's amazing they're still in great shape) at prices that won't break the bank.
If I had my sister's legs, I'd definitely shell out for the red-and-white maxi dress up top. That peter pan collar! The nipped waist! The flowing, full skirt! What's not to love!?! But since I've been short-changed (hur hur) I'll have to settle for the cute blue number to the left. The hem line's just decent enough to wear to work (with a white blazer over top), the print is fantastic! and the punchy shade of blue is perfect for my ghostly-white complexion. It will also go well from day to night for all those after work cocktails I've got to attend... I know, what a terrible life!
